Is blogging for you?

I’m in conversations with people who are ready to start a blog, and I’m excited for them.

But it got me thinking. What about the people who are still unsure about taking the next step? What about those who have all the ideas but lack the confidence to try?

It’s easy for me to tell you to just go for it, I’m here with a blog. It’s easy for me to tell you to write what feels right, I’m an experienced writer.

But I will tell you that blogging has its benefits, which include: a boost in confidence, a sense of community and a feeling of validation.

There’s a few indicators that will determine how ready you are to share your thoughts with the world.

So if you’re thinking about blogging, if you’re considering a blog name or an introductory post, this is for you.

You write lengthy Facebook statuses.

Instead of short updates for your news feed, you write essay-type posts that have an introduction, main body and a conclusion. You’ve tried to write shorter statuses, but it just doesn’t work. You know some people roll their eyes at your Facebook thoughts, but there are people who actively engage and contribute to the discussions you initiate. And that feels awesome.

You write captions that extend into the comment section.

Instagram captions have a lot of room, but it just isn’t enough for you. You’ve written a whole caption, but this is broken down into three parts and always, always continued in the comments.

You get into debates in the comment section.

It doesn’t matter whether you or someone else wrote the post, if you see a comment you disagree with you make sure they know about it. Your responses receive the most likes, you’re quick to any notification that tells you someone dared to answer you back. You’re not the type of person to back down from an argument, and your carefully crafted comments are iron-clad with knowledge, confidence and assertiveness.

You feel like you have a lot to say.

You are tuned into popular culture and have an opinion on everything – you just need an opportunity to share it. You’ve tried sharing your views on other people’s posts, but you don’t want to overdo it there. You want your own space in the online world where you can spill your thoughts and not have to hold back on the mess.

You also feel like you don’t have a voice.

Maybe you were a child who was constantly told to shut up. Or an adult who was scared to speak up. Whatever trauma you experienced in your life up until this point, you know that this is where the silence stops. You’re tired of waiting for people to give you permission or hand you opportunities. You’re tired of the lack of representation of someone with your experiences. You’re certain you could impact the world with your voice, all you need is to get someone to listen.

Guess what? You’re ready to start a blog!

For me it’s a no-brainer – the best way to find out if blogging is for you is to just try it. You don’t have to commit to buying a domain or paying for a graphic designer to create your graphics, you can start right now for free!

Give yourself a trial period, maybe 6 weeks or even 6 months.

Get a feel for it, get feedback, and see what you can give yourself this opportunity.

And if you need a bit of guidance or help planning it all, I’m right here.

What do you want to blog about?

With love,
