Welcome to my blog!

If you’re looking for academic reports, football analysis and scientific discoveries, this blog is definitely not for you.

If you’re looking for warm words, snippets of wisdom, writing wonders, book reviews, creative banter, personal development prompts and a whole lot of stuff to make you feel good, you’re in the right place.

My name is Annika Spalding, award-winning author of six books (plenty more coming) and an experienced Writing Coach. I’m a mum to two girls, work part-time for a charity and I’ve only just bought myself an ironing board. Yes, I’m officially adulting at the grand age of 32.

Now, grab a cuppa and sit in your favourite chair, because this is going to be a good read.

December Detox 2021

Gift yourself clarity, peace, and opportunity by signing up for December Detox. I challenge you to delete your social media apps and remove that digital distraction from your life for the whole of December. This is what I call a detox. Sometimes we just need a break from socials, right? I invite you to join me. This is the 4th time I’m running December Detox since deciding to share my personal practice with people who need it. Last year's round really changed the game for me and I've not had the same relationship with social media since. I even…

Self-Care Review: The Massage Company

Self-care is at the top of my agenda this year so, when I was invited to review The Massage Company I leapt at the opportunity. It's no secret that I live with anxiety and living through a pandemic has only served to give me more things to worry about. Working from home sounds like a dream until you're forced to do it while homeschooling your children while keeping the house tidy, and having an abundance of Zoom meetings. Me on the day of the massage - absolutely knackered. When I took a leap of faith in June this year…

How writing a book will really help you

Shattered Dreams by Annika Spalding (no longer available) When I wrote my first book, I had no thoughts about how it might help me; I just wanted to write a book. I had no idea about what might or could happen I pressed publish, and I certainly didn't expect everything that came after. Connecting with people every day is easy because social media, and I love interacting with my online audience. More recently I've been speaking with aspiring or established business owners who are in the process of putting their words onto paper, and the conversations we have are…

The Influence of Girl Power

As a child, I was absolutely in love with the Spice Girls and everything they stood for. I'd never thought deeply into how Girl Power had influenced the person I've become until more recently.

Power Planner Workshop

Conquer procrastination with my Power Planner workshop. I'm running this workshop because I realise we all need some direction when planning our goals and the steps we need to take to reach them. Maybe you're not even much of a planner, maybe you are but feel a bit lost right now. I've spoken to people who are waiting until Covid-19 ends before they start focusing on the things they want out of life, work and business. For me, it's just not feasible. We don't know when this will end, but that doesn't mean we can't work on our goals…

Journal prompts for self-care

When was the last time you wrote in your journal? I used to write in mine when I was angry or upset, when I needed to offload. Now I write in there daily. It's a great way for me to connect with myself on a deeper level. Having a deep connection with myself has been important as I learn to better care for and love myself after trauma. A huge part of my self-care is journaling and it makes a huge difference on my emotional wellbeing. Having the opportunity to vent, offload and disclose my thoughts and feelings in…

Keeping it together while the world falls apart

The last 12 months have challenged us all in ways we never expected. I've teetered near the edge many times... but somehow I'm managing to keep it together while the world feels like it is falling apart. So this is our new normal. It's a year into the pandemic, and we're still wearing masks. We're still working from home and staying away from our loved ones, and still social distancing. How did we get here? In the UK, we first went into lockdown in March 2020. I didn't know we'd still be here now, but did anybody? We were…
